Interlibrary Loan Policy
- If a renewal is requested, the item must be returned to the Benicia Library pending approval by the owning library.
- The item is due by the original due date, pending the renewal.
- A maximum of two (2) renewal requests are allowed per item, if approved by the lending library.
- Overdue interlibrary loan items must be returned prior to new requests being processed.
- Charges incurred for lost items from the lending library will be placed on the patron’s account.
- Damaged items will be charged the full replacement cost, along with any processing fees charged by the owning library.
- Interlibrary loan items may be subject to immediate recall.
- Failure to return items by the due date may result in a suspension or loss of interlibrary loan privileges for the patron.
If a patron wants to pay for a lost or damaged interlibrary loan, we will need to request an invoice from the owning library for the cost of the item. If the interlibrary loan shows as lost on the patron's card, the default cost is $115.00. Please advise the patron to wait until we get the invoice before paying, because the total may be less than the default. If the patron wants to pay immediately, please have them talk to Amber.
Interlibrary loan fees once paid are not refundable. We have already used the money to pay the owning library.
