Cash Register

**Do not ring up money for Friends' Booksale items. Money goes in their pay station box. Change for Friends Booksale items are in small cloth cash in a drawer at the desk- do not provide change from cash register. ** Additionally, Proctoring fees are rung up under FINES with appropriate CASH or CHARGE button.

Ringing Up Cash:

1. Enter the amount with no decimal.
2. Enter the department: fines, lost & paid, etc.
3. Press the "CA/AT/NS" key.

Ringing Up a Charge:

1. Enter the amount with no decimal.
2. Enter the department: fines, lost & paid, etc.
3. Press the "charge" key.
4. Paperclip cash register receipt to white signed receipt, clip to the computer receipt and put in register.

Ringing Up a Check:

1. Check must have patron's card number on it and your initials.
2. Check must be made out to Benicia Library.
3. Enter the amount with no decimal.
4. Enter the department: fines, lost & paid, etc.
5. Press the "CHK" key.

To Get Your Change Counted Back For You:

1. Enter the amount with no decimal.
2. Enter the department: fines, lost & paid, etc.
3. Enter the amount they gave you.
4. Press "CA/AT/NS" key.
5. Screen will show how much change to give.

If you ring up a transaction incorrectly, here's what to do:

  1. Finish the incorrect transaction.
  2. Tear off the cash register receipt.
  3. Write "void" and your initials on the cash register receipt.
  4. Clip the cash register receipt to any other paperwork that goes with the transaction, like a credit card slip, or the receipt from the computer, or both.
  5. Put the receipt (and other paperwork, if there is any) under the coins in the register.
  6. Ring up the transaction correctly (and carefully!).

STOP HERE! It will be handled next day by staff person reconciling the money.

Paper for the cash registers is in cabinet A.

To change the paper (if the screen shows all Ps, it needs paper):

1. Remove the register cover.
2. Using the green arrow lever on the left, move the carriage back.
3. Remove the old roll.
4. Place the new roll.
5. Press carriage back into place.
6. Advance the paper a few times to make sure everything is working properly.
